With a loud pop, I opened my 25 oz Ommegang Abbey AleOmmegang brought authentic Belgian beer styles to upstate New York in 1997.  Now part of the Duvel family of beers, Ommegang continues to produce an impressive array of authentic Belgian beer styles.

You can't beat their slogan - good beer, no s$#@ - or their Ralph Steadman graphics on their bottles, but I didn't know what to expect when I tried Flying Dog Brewery's Road Dog Porter.

Dogfish Head is an East Coast brewery that is hard to avoid these days.  Features in the New Yorker and on the Discovery Channel speak to the effectiveness of the marketing department.  With a reputation of hoppy beers, I had to jump in and try for myself.

Sam's Black Lager is an enigma to me - I even just grabbed my copy of Michael Jackson's Beer Companion because you just don't drink a schwarzbier everyday.  A style originating from the town of Bad Köstritz in Thuringia, Germany, Japanese brewers including Asahi,

Somewhere along the line, I decided I wasn't interested in Wachusett beers. Maybe its all their fruit beers or a less than positive experience back in their early days.

Whatever happened, its only recently that I discovered the hoppy Green Monsta Ale and rediscovered a hidden gem here in Massachusetts. It turns out, the brewers at Wachusett love their hops. And it was with some excitement that I tried their IPA.

The thing I've enjoyed the most since starting this site has been the opportunity to try beers again. Suddenly I have a reason to try new beers - I need content for the site! I've been on an $8/12pack Miller High Life run for too long to admit (it is the champagne of beers, after all). Plus, one of the goals in starting this site was to get "back in to" beer. What do you know, its working.

Vintage Beer Tasting

One of my favorite beer moments of the year is the release of Anchor's Christmas Ale. During the 1990s when I was brewing for a living, I would annually buy an extra six pack to cellar in the basement in order to compare vintages. Each year's recipe is unique and this was one of the beers that would hold up for a few years.

All was good until my cellar started expanding - and then I had kids.
