Wall Street in crisis as stock prices plunge. Businesses large and small closing their doors forever. Millions of Americans out of work, losing their homes…Headlines from CNBC or Bloomberg News? Well, yeah. But the scenario above is also the setting for one of the epic masterpieces of our culture, John Steinbeck’s 1939 classic, The Grapes of Wrath.

   Okay. I’ll admit it. This post is a bit premature. The fact of the matter is that by this time tomorrow, I’ll be in no condition to blog. By then, I hope to have drained several glasses in honor of an act of congress.

   NewYork1 is a cable news channel in this quaint little metropolis I call home. It has many fine qualities that set it apart from the usual dross that typically characterizes local stations. For example, they always broadcast the Greenwich Village Halloween Parade in its entirety. There's also a cool feature called "On This Day in New York City History".
