Anderson Valley Brewing Company is one of my favorite small California microbreweries - their beers are consistently outstanding across the board. Finding a fresh six-pack on the East Coast is always a treat. With that, I couldn't pass up a chance to try their Winter Solstice Seasonal Ale.

Beer on Bourbon St

I spent this week in New Orleans at the Do It with Drupal conference and enjoying some of Dixie's outstanding local beers.

It was my first trip to New Orleans and Bourbon St lived up to expectations (good and bad), but I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the local brews too.  Mix in a bourbon sampler trays, lots of oysters, alligator sausage, po' boys and mechanical bull rides - good times all around.

Magic Hat Roxy Rolles

Amber/Red Ale

Magic Hat's Roxy Rolles is a middle of the road take on the specialty holiday beer. Where some holiday beers are loaded up with hops or thick with spices and malty goodness, Roxy Rolles is a pretty straightforward amber ale. Deep amber in color with a sweet nose, spicy start and sweet, malty finish, this beer is a pretty well-balanced American Amber. While it won't wow your holiday party guests, its a very drinkable option on a cold Vermont night.
