Where is it Brewed?:
Brooklyn, NY
Style:
Scottish-Style Ale

Brooklyn Winter Ale is a Scottish Ale, a rich malty beer brewed for cold, winter nights on the heather. Rich amber color with a deep red hue. The pour was just ok, a bit lacking in foam head despite all the malt in the beer.

The aroma is sweet, with hints of caramel and almond, no noticeable hop presence.

The flavor is a balance of sweet and spicy. It starts malty, then spicy hop flavors from the Willamette hops take over, a little peppery with subtle pine notes. It has a sweet finish with hints of the candy notes typical of Belgian flavored malts, this may be both the Belgian Aromatic malt and the Oats used in the recipe. The carbonation level is high, surprising since it poured a little flat, contributing to the spiciness throughout.

Its a flavorful, no frills approach to the holiday / winter beer season that reflects the brewery's restrained style. Now, if we could only convince them to drop their crappy flash website.
