Super Bowl Beers... in a Can?

NYC food and drink email service Tasting Table recently posted an article on a new trend in craft brewing - canned craft brews.

Beers available in cans include:

  • Butternuts Snapperhead IPA
  • New England Brewery Elm City Lager
  • Sly Fox Pikeland Pils
  • Oskar Blues Ten Fidy Imperial Stout

While none of these would be considered cheap, the cans are easy to recycle and block out damaging UV rays. The article claims that cans are also better at preserving freshness by keeping oxygen out - but any good brewer knows that cans are the worst of the available packaging options for this. Kegs and bottles are both much better at counter-pressure filling to keep the oxygen out. And for now, we'll just have to wait for the wide mouth can craze to hit the craft brewing market.

Another great canned beer

Uncommon Brewers in Santa Cruz, CA also cans their beer. They have Belgian-style beers in 16oz. tall boys! Great stuff.

Cheers.
